Rubavu District | 23 October 2026
On 23 October, Rwanda Red Cross volunteers worked with residents of Kayanza Village in Nyundo Sector to fill and position sandbags in flood-prone areas.
The initiative forms part of anticipatory action to help communities prepare before flooding causes damage. Volunteers also shared early warning messages, encouraged residents to clear drainage channels and supported practical household preparedness.
The Rwanda Red Cross reported that these measures aim to protect 60 vulnerable households. The work involves local authorities and community members, with support linked to the IFRC and Finnish Red Cross.
